Before you try you get a spec changed you need to see if they have a statement in the spec that says “or equal” or “substitutions may be submitted for review”. At times it will clearly state that substitutions will not be accepted although I have had some of those changed but it’s unlikely that they will.

As to your questions:

1. Our E100-VB5 cannot be installed at higher mils to increase what it will work up to. It is rated at 12 lbs if the surface is properly prepared.

2. The reason that some manufactures stress that the surface should be shotblasted is because there is no possibility of the surface being closed up. At times while prepping the surface by grinding you can see that the surface gets shinny. The surface gets that way because it was closed up and you should switch to either a courser diamond or try hitting it again to open it back up.

3. Vapor testing – There are three ways to see if there is moisture but only two of them are actually taking readings. The first would simply be an indicator if there is any moisture at the time. That would be done by taping some plastic to the surface and peeling it up later to see if there is moisture. If you see moisture under the plastic then you should do one of the following tests. The second test method would be the ASTM F 1869 calcium chloride test which originated in the 1950’s by the sheet flooring and tile industry. It is not a very reliable test and can give you falls readings that show that it’s ok to coat the substrate when there really are moisture problems. The Third test method is the ASTM F 2170, a relative humidity test which was introduced in 2003 has become the standard because of it’s reliable test results. This one is done by drilling a hole and inserting an electronic probe into the concrete to get internal moisture readings.
