Epoxy failure per previous post |
Lead | ||
|
OK, we did 500 SqFt floor & none of it set up. I went a scaped off what I could today.The only thing I can think of for failure, is we had a 1.5g kit & a 3 g kit. 1.5 g & 3g kit have same container of A & B units. I was aware of this potential problem, & thought I kept track during mixing. (not that much to keep track of), but that's the only conclusion I can find. Could it be mislabeling? Ok, scraped most off but thin film remains. Anyone have an idea how to remove this film, for future epoxy?

Re you using regulat PT-1 or the New Crystal ClearPT Epoxy? I did not know that the regular came in a 1.5 or 3 gal kit? Just trying to get the info others will need to answer your question! I have yet to try the new Crystal Clear Epoxy!

I thought it was Pt-1 crystal clear epoxy. Didn't know these were differernt products. This forum is not making me EC believer. My distributor wasn't been much help either. Does anyone know whats going on? or how to answer problem
questions. If not, I'm on search for new company to work with |

If it did not cure, then you probably did mix A/A and B/B. It needs to have A/B together to cure. Scrape off as much as you can get off then wipe of the rest of the residue with a solvent. Once it is cleaned back down to the first coat you should be able to do a light sand and topcoat again.
Hope this helps. Elite Crete Ft. Myers |

I recently had a friend open a sports store. He had a wooden slab for a countertop, someone else did the pour on epoxy. It must not have been mixed properly, because it did not set up and cure.
I put crystal clear over it and it did dry out and curem but had some poc marks. I put another coat on and it was fine. Years ago I had some painters working for me in a sports center. the shower and locker areas were to be epoxied. They rolled the catalyst (A) on with out mixing in the hardner(B) well it could sit for a hundred years before it would dry out, I mixed more properly and went over it and it cured out. SO I would try a small section and go over what you can't get off and try it. |

I started a long reply and I had to do something and lost it.... better off starting over as I wasn't as nice as I am going to be on this attempt. OK, (big breath) This biz has a high learning curve, the more you expand, the more you need to know. Without any background or very little, it's a longer walk down the learning path. Now some guys can get away with it because they have a mechanical way of thinking and can dissect each step. This stuff isn't rocket science and can go really smoothly. It's when a problem shows it ugly head (hitting the proverbial wall) and to then have the answers. My nose has been bent so many times hitting that wall. Those mistakes I never forget and never repeat. I take stride in keeping my calm to "learn" from that mistake to better myself for the next project. |

I'll try that tomorrow, & see what happens. I have 1/2 gal of UV-1 I use for sample. My rep. told me UV-1 & PT -1 are the same, without Uv protection.

Great response to my frustration, I appreciate it. I also appreciate on this forum, that noone has called me an idiot, which I believe I am. I've had as many failures as successes in the decorative concrete world. It gets frustrating & I'm 47 yrs old. I apologize for any derogitory statements. I believe in EC & want to continue using the product. This is a good forum, I'll let you know how this goes.

Heck aa and bb mix is not so bad LOL try mixing spartic all and uv1 together and waiting for it to set. Read those labels double check everything, use the big marker, Gene is so right. Don't just read the instructions follow them!! Be organized and stay calm.
