Moisture on top of CSS

Posts: 12 07/16/10 05:37 PM	Tags : None What would cause moisture to settle on top of CSS? This is a basement floor dyed with Hydrastone, and sealed with CSS (3 coats 1.5:1) Each coat dried in about 1.5-2 hours. There is now a very thin film of water on the floor. The floor had 3 full days to dry after washing before dye and CSS. The AC is turned off in the house as the floors are being done but it is not humid, in fact the basement is on the cool side. Any ideas? Will the water evaporate as the CSS cures? Thanks

Posts: 557 07/16/10 08:09 PM	Just because it is cool in the basement does not mean that it is not humid. The air conditioning actually dries and cools the air. A basement generally stays a constant temp all year long due to the fact that at least half of the walls are below the frost line. Could be moist air and cool slab. Instead of being absorbed by the slab, it is sitting on top of the CSS. Just a stab in the dark. p.s. Shouldn't be using CSS in a basement. New waterborne epoxy or new PT1 would be a better option.

Posts: 309 07/17/10 11:22 AM	right..if the basement is cooler than the room above, you will have condensation..water will drop out of the air. It's like mist in the evening...as the air cools, and the floor might be a little warmer, it causes water to condensate..*(I think!! LOL)
