Posts: 12 08/18/10 11:37 AM	Tags : None For as long as I've been doing this, (14 years now), green and blue chemical stains devolop black splotches when there is a good amount of water vapor comming from the concrete. This is especially true on outdoor installations. Has anyone tried to stain, then densify, and finaly seal a floor in order to minimize this reaction? Any suggestions on alternative products to a chemical stain? Water based perhaps? The floor does get alot of sunshine. It's about 14,000 sq. ft. total.

Posts: 111 08/19/10 05:26 PM	are we talking acid stains here?....if so dont use blue and greens out doors..they all fade and go black after a while...its the sun that does it .Lets see if Gene will chime in here and shed a little light for us. Dirk

Posts: 438 08/19/10 09:48 PM	Dirk, It's actually the moisture that causes the black color to develop. Blues and greens are produced by oxidizing copper in the same way that a copper roof or gutter will turn blue as it weathers. After time that copper roof or gutter will get a black scale over it as it continues to oxidize. This is what happens as moisture vapor comes through the slab and the black freckles develop. I have never tried to densify to reduce or eliminate this happening but I would be interested in the results if you give it a go David. I have heard some rumors that EC is working on a new water based coloring product that will work well on your project. Lets see if Gene will chime in and shed a little light for us. Posts: 13 08/24/10 11:27 AM	Well, if it where only 400 sq or so I'd give the densifiers a go. In fact, I'm going to stain a slab out in the yard with greens and blues and then densify it to see if the process might help. I'll keep everyone posted. There are a lot of water based stains on the market. I'll give them a try.
