Posts: 7 08/16/10 07:18 PM	Tags : None I have a 4000sf project . the floor has excellent commericial viny tile installed, been there for 6 years. My job is to make the floor sky blue. Can I go over the vinyl tile floor with an thin overlay and stain that or will I have to remove the tile and grind the concrete floor before I can install the stain? I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to do this. What I really want to use is blue reflector on this floor. Any help for me , thank you.... Doug

Posts: 143 08/17/10 11:53 AM	Jeff, Be aware that going over VCT is not recommended. If you do it, your leaving your own butt out in the wind. Remember, prep is 80% of the job. What you put down is only as good as what it goes on. Thin-Finish is meant to adhere to concrete. When going over something else...last man in loses. If the VCT starts to fail, you will be the bad guy. I bet 1/3 to 1/2 the work I used to do was fixing problems. We have a number of people who advertise "we go over everything" Good luck getting them to come back when it fails...I have gone in and had to remove plenty of "we go over anything" and done it the right way. Costs the owner twice as much, but I know it will last and I won't get a callback down the road. Just my 2 cents... Posts: 562 08/17/10 12:51 PM	Tile removal isn't that big of a deal. Rent a couple of tile busters, and let them do the initial work. Once up, grind and overlay. Done this way a couple times, and it works just fine. That way I know that we are applying on a good clean well prepped concrete surface as the product is meant to be applied. If you can't afford to do it right the first time, how can you possibly afford to do it right the second time.
