Need to Strip Kemiko Stone Tone Wax

Posts: 6 08/16/10 11:34 AM	Tags : None Hi All, I need to remove Kemiko's Stone Tone Wax 42C-1 from a concrete floor. The wax is failing in many places leaving irregular shaped flaked up areas. The rep said I need a lacquer thinner to lift it up. I would prefer to use something less volatile as this is in someones home. Or could I clean and reapply the Stone Tone Wax to hide the areas were it has come up? Or would you recommend grinding instead? Any help would be appreciated.

Posts: 7 08/16/10 01:00 PM	Yes Gene, The gent on the phone called it a solvent based, buff on wax. The number on the can is 42C-1. It is on a residential floor. This is a loft space in a multi-unit building. I know the owner is not going to want lacquer thinner used. This floor the entire loft. There is no way to close off the work area and separate the lacquer thinner fumes from the client. Tom

Posts: 2919 08/18/10 07:12 AM Moderaor in training	What I can't believe that they apply this as the ONLY sealer on a lot of acid stain floors around here. I was wondering why my bids were getting rejected as too high. Traced it down and found out that this was the application being used. Of 6 commercial floors that I gave numbers to, 5 of them have called me back in less than a year to "fix" them. I've not signed with any of them because they cannot afford to have the cash register sitting quietly. I do enjoy the "I told you so"....... (In a very professional way of course). gene ec-Indy

Posts: 2 09/06/10 11:40 AM	Good luck. I have done this. You must use a lacquer thinner or xylene and it is still diffiicult to remove it all. Are you applying CSS afterward?

Posts: 227 10/15/10 03:47 PM	grind it off it will save time and money for you and your client in the long run do it wet to kill all dust. restain seal... I have alot of that wax down and have never seen it peel. drips and stains will soak through like a mofo but never seen it peel. it will not last a month in a restraunt application. but people do it because lo bid = cheep floor.
