You can put down one coat only 1.5 to 1 then go back and put on 2nd coat after full cure.

I usually give it a 'cure n seal' spray coat of 3-1 and then wait 10 days for final coat. Concrete will gain 70% of it's cure in 10 days.... unless you are pouring in November. Throwing a thin solids coat will protect it from getting dirty, locking the color down and still allow it to hydrate.

Not to push the limits, but we've put down 2 coats (applied both ways, sprayed and rolled) of CSS 2:1 many times and (knock on wood) haven't had a single problem.

Oh, I didn't say I don't do it. Usually it's on the project that's just this side of hell's acre, you know the one, takes 2 hours to get to..... I did this really nice stamped patio once and talked myself into giving it the "final" coat the day of the pour. It was really a pain to get to and I was so, so busy. Trying to catch up on my schedule, I went ahead a sealed it....... That project cost me 3 days of call backs, fighting the bubbles. I finally shot blast it and overlayed. Applied way too much sealer and screwed up the finish getting it off. gene ec-Indy
