Hi all. Poured a shuffle board yesterday. They want to use it quickly. Can I mix 844 pigments with css and put it on concrete that is three days old? Thanks

I'm assuming you slicked it out which closes up the surface. You have to understand the capillaries are still full of moisture and will resist any foreign materials (CSS) from entering. So at best the sealer will lay on top and not have a very good bond. Now during the hydration and curing process, the concrete is chemically changing. If no cure and seal coat was applied, then it should have been wet cured. You loose a lot of strength on concrete that dries too quickly. That being said.......
You could start "helping" the surface dry by applying several wet coats of denatured alcohol. This will pull moisture out of the surface. You still don't want to close off the surface as the deeper moisture will keep rising. Water tends to migrate towards heat and dry. Blocking off the escape door will cause it to blush under the sealer. Add color to it and it will scream at you in discoloration with blushing and salts. 7 days would be a safer bet before applying a heavy coat of sealer. I wouldn't go heavy on the 844 either. Why not use Reflector Enhancer instead? Go a light coat loaded with RE, say 3:1. It will still breath and you can come back later and apply a heavier coat once the concrete cures out. (It may get scratched up but they can still use it). Your second coat would take care of any scratches. gene |

thanks gene. I spoke with the owner today and show him how soft the top of the concrete still was after 24 hours..told him he would have to wait a while..and just be patient, otherwise, he'll spend a little now and a lot later...he said he understood and would hold off. I'll talk to him about the reflector.
