How Accurate is the color charts

Posts: 18 04/27/10 08:46 PM	Tags : None Im wanting to switch to EC as opposed to my previous brands i have used in the past: Increte, Oncrete, Butterfield, Scofield. i am just uneasy as i have never used there product before, and am not sure how accurate there colors are, or what colors will go good together. i have quite a few years using the other products and have quite the extensive color combinations we have used. i am planning on using CSS regardless, but may use other releases and integral colors for a while, at least on the bigger jobs. any suggestions or advice to add to help ease my concern. thanks Nate

I will assume you are talking integral, color hardener and release because you posted in the full depth concrete forum. These colors are seem more vibrant than Solomon, brickform or those lesser brands you mention. Of course loading, cement ratio and all the other stuff that would affect any color apply. Who owns brickform.. ah, today? Colors are colors..... as far as what does and doesn't go together, it won't matter WHO's color you use, it's the designer in You that will choose the best combo. I do know what you mean though. When I go to pick out clothing( pulling teeth) I look at the dummies they dress to find combos that look good together. I look at stones, rocks, granite, anything that is in nature to pull color combo's off of. I look at regional areas and the colors related to that area. Depending on the customers background (where and what region they are shooting for) I go after that "look". It's pretty simple in the Indiana area. Brown County rubble.. Tans, browns and grays. Some like the blue stones with a touch of green shading. Now pull in a Colorado transvestite's and I pull up that area's colors to tickle their pinkies. Now if you are talking Portion Control colorants..... never mind, but everything I've said holds true for that also. Learn color and you have won the battle! gene(color blind) ec-Indy

Posts: 19 04/28/10 08:14 AM	Gene- i am reffering to Integral, releases, and hardener. i know that the mix and H2O content has alot to do with it. i have done hundreds of stamped jobs and have learned what colors go good together for instance Increte's Pecos Beige and Autumn Brown looks great together. i sell it all the time. my concern is that i sell that color or and then go off the color charts and get something completely different. it all stems from wanting to go to EC, i could stick with the old stuff but with everything else ive seen with EC i dont see why these products wouldnt be superior also thanks Nate

Posts: 2730 04/28/10 08:46 AM Moderaor in training	OK, I gotcha now. You know as well I as do how color varies. EC's colors have no fillers in them which can "dilute" the coloring. I'm signing a contract for a stamped concrete project this afternoon..... after I swore I was done with installations. (Old customer that wont take no for an answer) I will be using our coloring system. Integral coloring can change by the sands used, cement supplier, atmospheric conditions...... Cast on (toss and cough) usually are pretty close to it. Of course I have several full gallons of paint in the basement because of going off a paint chip.... You can make samples of color hardener with success. Integral is another story. Too many variables to get perfect. Selling the slight variances to the customer is the most important issue at hand. I don't think it's that big of deal. gene ec-Indy

Posts: 772 06/27/10 07:23 PM	Release will also change integral colored concrete , so it will not be exact to color chart anyway . I do not use only one release agent on my stamp jobs , i use up to four most times to get different color variations , as all stone isnt just one or two colors . Its in the application proces to keep colors flowing and not looking blocked or splotchy . My 2 cents . Tom M
