I tried using micro and a wood grain tool but I think this thicker than EC recomends. Made it looked like distresed old hardwood floors and I'm not happy with the color. I think I used chocolate micro with a desert beige TF basecoat.
Thanks

Anyone have any suggestions to simulate a natural red oak hardwood floor.

you might try going over the top with some hydrastone saddlebag or maybe a more reddish color..

Tint a base coat follow with a tinted finish coat of TF and broom it out in straight lines, use a color that will be your dark grain color. Use a lighter color or non colored coat of MICRO to fill the broom lines and sand with a parquet floor sander to smooth it and reveal the broom tips for grain. Coat the entire floor with Leather Tan HS Dye which will let the darker tips show through. Cut or scribe to plank out if you want and seal. Might fit what you are looking for.

You have any pics of what you described? It sounds like it might work ...at least the way I am envisioning it in my head. Thanks |

This may be close to what Dave was talking about. If you want it a little darker or more red try 2 coats of Hydrastone leater tan.

Dennis, I'm not sure how you did that but you sure did a nice job. Nice clean planks.

This was the 2nd try at it Dave. I love the way it turned out, other than I will try to figure a way to get the lines crisper. I followed the lead that you posted on how to do it. I coat dark sandstone tf for base coat followed by a second dark sandstone pcc tf and drug a broom softly through it before it completely set-up. Following day did a light sand to remove the high spots from draging the broom and did a mf coat with no color. Lightly sanded so that the grain from the broom coat showed through a little and then flooded the board with water and sprayed Hydrastone Leather Tan consistantly over the board. The trick is to keep the board flooded with water so that the Hydrastone can do its thing. Let dry for 2 days, here is the special part, took a lint free soft cloth and gently wiped the board. It took some of the darker spots off and gave it a more common look. Then sealed with CSS.

Dennis,
When you flood with water are you using HYDRA-Stone Dye or CHEM-Stone acid stain? I have never used HS with H2O.

Hydrastone Dave. I have been playing around with it a little more after doing that board to try to get a marble like look. When I get it done I will post pictures.
