This may be close to what Dave was talking about.  If you want it a little darker or more red try 2 coats of Hydrastone leater tan.

This was the 2nd try at it Dave.  I love the way it turned out, other than I will try to figure a way to get the lines crisper.  I followed the lead that you posted on how to do it. I coat dark sandstone tf for base coat followed by a second dark sandstone pcc tf and drug a broom softly through it before it completely set-up.  Following day did a light sand to remove the high spots from draging the broom and did a mf coat with no color.  Lightly sanded so that the grain from the broom coat showed through a little and then flooded the board with water and sprayed Hydrastone Leather Tan consistantly over the board.  The trick is to keep the board flooded with water so that the Hydrastone can do its thing.  Let dry for 2 days, here is the special part, took a lint free soft cloth and gently wiped the board.  It took some of the darker spots off and gave it a more common look.  Then sealed with CSS.
