Posts: 1 06/10/09 10:13 PM	Tags : None In my neck of the woods in southern new england everyone knows stamp concrete but when it comes to acid stains and other resurfacing jobs people are clueless. Never mind something like vertical stamping. I want to advertise these services more in a direct mailing campaign. Would love to get the point across that someones plain concrete driveway, walk, steps, wall, etc can be unique and new again. Also givig them a better return in added value. Looking for anyone input to my ad. Right now I can say it'll have the following: -a 10% discount (really isn't though) -before /after pictures -list of services -my information as well as my website (which is being built and will be informative to my customers) -will offer free estimates and design consolations Anyone have any ideas, thoughts? Also I was thinking of a mass mailing to all the GCs in my area sending them info packets on my services I could provide them with. Any thoughts on this also. Posts: 1557 06/11/09 06:11 AM	make 'em real BUT there's only ! way to gain it - by action NOW ! ! ! don't waste time w/1 owner presentations only,,, no matter who it is, the spouse will ALWAYS have to get approval from the other in absence when you pitch your wonderful solution - if they both can't be there & its residential, you're wasting your time,,, you'll find there'll be some prospects who know of the work but have NO idea who does it OR the cost of decent work,,, everyone's thinking they can be a gc thanks to hgtv/diy shows,,, most of us have had, generally, to include education as part of our marketing efforts,,, far's your marketing/advertising plan, sounds right ! best [the original] i'll-be-back-when-we-can-ALL-be-here yic-yac its been said democracy comes in 4 boxes: soap, ballot, jury, & ammo !

Posts: 191 05/10/10 08:06 AM	MJ I always tell my contractors that the web is the best dollar spent. Getting that website up and running is a TOP priority. As far as direct mailing, you are hitting all the right points. BUT... there's always a but, right? You need to focus on "resurfacing." We are at a sensative point in our economy. The general public is starting to peek their noses out of their money bomb shelters. I have been focusing on RESURFACING because people have lost a lot of money in the devaluing of their home, but they also know if they do not maintain it... it will slide farther down. The key to direct/ phone/ web marketing is to get in front of the customer so you can SELL the quality, value, and economic benefits to resurfacing. Now your mailing may have simple before and after pictures of broom coats or splatter textures, your portfolio that you have them look through should have a huge arcinal of all our systems and offerings. Another point I like to make is... material cost for a broom, splatter, or even a slate trowel are pretty much the same... what customer wouldn't want to have something decorative over plain gray? Posts: 138 05/14/10 05:44 AM	its always a good idea to have the copy run past either an editor OR a word-spell program,,, we can be the greatest artisans in the area but if your site's filled w/spelling, grammar, & sentence structure errors, that speaks much more about us ! eg, ' driveways ' is plural & ' driveway's ' is possessive. best [the original] its-always-difficult-to-make-a-good-1st-impression-so-don't-f-yourself-while-doing-so yic-yac it is said freedom comes in 4 boxes - soap, ballot, jury, & ammo.

Posts: 219 05/14/10 11:54 PM	I have tried every sort of media out there except for radio, and by far the best form of marketing for me is home shows. I have 3 in the spring and they always do well. I also use a mailer called RSVP. it is a pack of 35 high quality post cards, and that works second best for me. It mails out to 50 000 up market households. I typically get around 40 calls of that mailing. Then i do Google ad-words, and that is totally worth it. I actually have a free estimate page on my website where a customer can put in the basics of their job and i will email them a bid. It helps to eliminate tire kickers. i figure if price is there main issue, get that out the way first, if they call you in for an estimate then you know it is not about price. I am also trying out a new on demand TV ad campaign that launches on Monday. I will post the 3 minute video here soon. When i go bid i don't require both to be there as that is not always possible, and i figure if the spouse wants it they will convince the other one. Anyway I sell mainly trowel textures, i figure it makes the most money on exterior resurfacing. On interior work i try sell acid stains, and now REFLECTOR. I just finished my 2nd RF floor and it looked pretty unique. Will post pics next week. I started my business from scratch, and it takes tenacity and hard work to build it up.
