I've been paying for Adwords for about three years now. I made the monthly maximum $50 to try it out. I immediatly saw increased activity and even sold a couple of jobs I know came from the adds. However, as my search engine rankings improved, my internet leads has really taken off. I still pay for it because I just don't want to loose ANY business. But, I'm not convinced it's a very economical marketing plan and have been tossing around the idea of dropping it for a number of reasons. I don't think the clicks are qualified clicks due stats provided from my web hosting company (Yahoo) on the refering webpage of my site visitor- in other words, the last page they looked at before coming to my homepage. They are inconsistent with the stats and number of clicks Google says I get (and charge me for). One company is obviously wrong but how do I know which. Google always charges your maximum (or within a few cents). I will probably just cancel and wait and see if there is a large decrease in traffic. I have a hunch I've been wasting my money. If you do decide to use it, make sure you put your city or coverage area somehow in the add. The areas are large and you will waste money on clickers that find out your three or four hours away and look elseware. Make sure your meta tags are filled in for your site. This is what the search engines use to rank you and will give you tons of free clicks. Do an internet search on "search engine optimization" and you'll find all kinds of ways to increase your ranking. Make sure your location is in the meta tags also because you want local shoppers. I took some time, but now if you search "acid stain", "concrete", or a number of other relevant words in combination with "Branson, MO", my site www.manicuredconcrete.com is number 1 on most engines. I imagine large metro areas would be tougher to climb as quick and paying a pro to help you would probably be a better investment than Google Adwords. Good luck!!
