Posts: 44 03/08/09 07:37 AM	Ryan, thats two pieces of 3/4'' MDF with tf and two coats of mf to smooth out. acid stained with antique brown, some black, and walnut from another manufacturer that i had left over, laid some string out and the let the wind blow the acid around. sealed with css Paul Carter www.concretefinishsolutions.com

Posts: 9 05/02/12 03:01 PM	Jst wondering y u used 2 3/4 pieces of md?.to save time weight I usually jst 3/4 mdf and then add 3/4 mdf strip on edges to make a false edge .it gives you what ever thickness your looking for.or do u. Have a reason for the extra mdf.looks good though iam jst currious.Thx

It's hard to rip thin strips and mount on the top though it's OK for small samples but on a large install, especially with a huge overhang, I'd feel more comfy with this construction. That and the fact if fat Martha ever flung her over sized load onto the top I'd feel better having the support. These are still a lot lighter than a full depth pour. But I think there is something worth nothing here - if the surface was completely flat and the color was solid then there will be issues with the countertop. It will show scratches and it will etch from lemon juice, mustard, ketchup, or wine. My point is not to say that CSS is a bad sealer. Far from that. It's just important to remember that the products being used are great for certain applications and not that good for others. This countertop is an example of using the products properly - they both compliment each other visually (the texture compliments the stain) and detract from the normal wear and tear (not perfectly smooth sealer and random stain pattern).
