I think I found a magic bullet for preventing HS from bleeding under tape. I've seen posts where guys have used fiber tape and had good luck. I've
not been so lucky! But I picked up some vinyl masonry tape that I normally use to protect walls by putting on as a second layer over my masking and plastic.
So far, I can't find it in skinny rolls. The smallest I've found is about the same width as duck tape. But if it's pressed down securely on the
floor, HS stays out from under it. I scored a large 8' x 8' square in my basement and did a Saddlebag Brown stain in it with Orange/Gold Reflecor in
SA-RM. I used the vinyl tape to protect the overlay and PT1 that I did a few months ago. When I pulled the tape, there was absolutely NO HS under it. The
lines were crisp and, believe me, I had plenty of overspray! The tip of my sprayer went all funky right in the middle of the whole thing (I think there was a
little US trapped inside and it clogged up to the tip).
**BE WARNED** If you use this tape to protect walls, you MUST use it on top of masking or painters tape! Otherwise, when you pull it, you'll pull the paint right off the baseboards or walls. This stuff will stick to practically anything.
