I use the cheap ones from home depot. About $10 bucks. Adjust the nozzle to a really fine mist.
Have fun. -Jeff |

The hudson sprayers work. But the acid eventually eats the springs and you have to throw them away. If you want one you can reuse, spend the extra and buy a SP
Acid sprayer. The metal parts are protected and the acid doesn't come in contact with them. Everything else is brass or plastic.

I'm carrying both the SP and the Solo. So far, the (less expensive) Solo is holding it's own. Not done the back pack models yet. At half the cost of
SP, it may be a good alternative. The Solo 3.5 construction duty sprayer, (the one they recommend for sealers), has all the tips included. It also can be
charged with an air compressor. Can't be beat for less than $60.00. gene(always looking to save the guys a buck) ec-Indy

I will tell you from our experiance that a GOOD sprayer is a wonderful thing...... The cheap ones have circular mono directional sprayer which makes it hard to
spray in a fan pattern and it is hard to control the flow. With a Good sprayer, your stain will go soooooo much further, which will translate into savings for
you......... If you ever use water based stains, you can Not pool the stain (without issues). The finer your spray the more control you have over the colors
application, easier to layer colors( or blend), less you have to tape off, and the better your outcome. Especially if working indoors. Oh, and they last a Lot
longer........ A good sprayer is a way to control your art instead of letting your art control you! 4C Decorative Concrete

I agree use the cheap ones. they all go bad eventually, example: 5 uses out of a cheap one is better than 5 uses out of an expensive sprayer. after every use
you need to nuetralize the acid in the sprayer as well as the acid on the floor

I use cheap sprayers, but I ALWAYS spray acid on wet concrete. That way it doesn't really matter what "shape" your tip sprays. The water on the
floor disperses the acid out evenly and you have beautiful floors!
Good Luck! Dan |

Cheap Sprayers at Home Depot | #14 | ||

We have used many types of sprayers, and the best are the throw away sprayers at Home Depot. Make sure to pump up to get a good mist, and prewet the surface. This will give a good stain coat. Spray, broom, spray and your good to go. If you want to step it up, Patriot Sprayer are about $150-200.00 and they are great as long as they are maintained and cleaned well. But for the money, throw aways are the best. Hard to get employees in my shop to always clean sprayers.

Personally , as many years have passed i also was on the cheap sprayer kick , but i learned . I have been using the chapin acid sprayer , if you take care of it , i have used up to 6 months . I spray everything out of it except sealer . Average life is at least 3 to 4 months s. 50.00 apiece , well worth my money and my 2 cents. Tom M

Any suggestions on what is the best way to prep a basement floor??? The majority of acid staining i do is interior and just want to make sure all my angles are covered and didnt know if the muratic acid and ammonia would stink up the house and with two new borns this is definately not an option. Thanks,

My experience is to grind and overlay. If theres any crap on the slab.... glues, paint, etc.... it's best to just diamond grind and apply a thin overlay. You can get away with polishing without removing too much of the surface paste but it's a real hassle to do. You can go with the strippers out there but they are expensive and most leave an oily residue that will cause coloring problems. Even if you have a perfect slab to stain, it can go belly up with ghosting if anything was laid on it during hydration. The Hydra stone Dyes are a good thing to have if touch ups are needed. If the slab has been glazed over during power troweling then the acid in the stain may not cut through it and just lay on top and laugh at you. (I don't like being laughed at)... So I normally suggest just doing an overlay then staining. You have much better control of coloring. I personally don't run across a perfect slab to stain unless I have control over the placement and finishing of the concrete. Some additives in the concrete mix will cause staining problems also so it's not as cut and dry as you would think. You need to have your butt covered in the contract language to cover hidden costs. gene ec-Indy |
