Posts: 74 05/11/07 09:40 AM	Tags : None We are in the middle of grinding the floors in my house to do a microfinish overlay. If this were a customers, I would be out of biz . . . there is dust everywhere. I rented an edco surface grinder and an edco concrete vacuum and thought this would hold the dust down. The edco vac was not working really at all so I took that back and we were alternating between 2 rigid vacs because the filters get plugged so quickly. I ordered the crusader backpack sprayer a month ago and just love it so I decided to go with their vacuum. Does anyone have any opinions on how the crusader vac works for grinding applications? Or any suggestions as to how to keep the dust down in general . . . using a surface grinder or our 7 inch grinders with metal shrouds? Thanks!

Posts: 3589 05/11/07 10:34 AM	I really like the Crusader WET vac with the front mounted squeegee. So much that I picked up that line. As far as dry vac's, the Pulse-bac is the way to go.... (In my thinking) I started carrying that brand also. They are pricey but you don't have to screw with filters clogging up. I was having so much trouble with dust since I do a lot of interiors that I went ahead and bit the bullet. My little Love less vac just sits in the corner of my garage now. Posts: 74 05/11/07 10:59 AM	What do those vacs run as far as price . . . shipped to Phoenix? I think the crusader vac with filters was around $550. What type of grinder are you using? Pretty much all the rental places down here have the walk behind 10" edco surface grinders. Would you recommend those? Also, what type of shroud are you running on your 7" grinders? We are using Pearl Abrasives vacuguard. Do you use any water? I really appreciate the advice . . . surface prep in training is a 10 minute sidenote.

Posts: 1015 05/11/07 11:38 AM	are yo using the edco 10 turbo grinder , they suck as does the vacuum , the blades seem to wear on one side , and they havent figured it out , either that or i am leaning when using it ,and the vacuum can pick up a piece a kleenex. I did bite the bullet and bought a werkmaster grinder , a little pricey but i have taken off sealers and paint like a breeze , you still need to do a little touch up , 4000 sq ft and has hardly scratched the diamonds . They say at least 40,000 sq ft per set of diamonds , 8 of them @ 20 grit , so far so good , runs on 30 amp 250 volt electric , and i can atest to 100 % dustless , even with my shroud a little messed up , oh did i mention it will get to within 1/8 inch of wall so no edging , needless to say i have havent bought any cup wheels for a month now.

Posts: 123 05/11/07 07:22 PM	I rent the blastrac 7" grinder with shroud and vac for $50/day. You have to buy the blades. They work great and they are dustless. I can buy the package with the full and the edging shrouds for $1800.00. The pulse-bac vac alone is $1800.00.

Posts: 3589 05/12/07 05:43 PM	With theses larger tools. If you go over 220 single phase, it starts adding up quickly. Even 220 is hard to acquire in some residences. You have to dance in the fuze box. I do that all the time with my trusty 30 amp fuses I carry around to pull enough for the smaller grinders on 110v. gene-ecindy

Posts: 384 06/02/08 10:22 PM	bought a set of poly carbonate diamonds for my werkmaster , just took off epoxy and another section had color quartz floor , some had vinyl , took that off and mastic underneath , all on one job , 1700 sq ft , the pcds just destroyed it , had to go in each direction , then put my 20 grit on skimmed over it , had a guy doing low areas with 5 inch grinder . 5 hours total , for each man . There are other machines cheaper than the werkmaster , that do a good job , so if you get good equipment the money you save on labor and diamonds is significant . Dont always look at the price . tom m
