Need help with marble look |
Lead | ||
|
I've seen some of the marble pictures in the forums and they all look really good. I wanted to try and find out how other people did theirs. How do you guys do marble looking floors?

Wow, it's been a week and no one knows about marbling?
At the suggestion of my dist. I tried adding water to the HS. It did show some marbling. I also wetted the surface before applying. This also showed promise. If anyone else has any ideas, please share! |

Apply US, let it dry about 95% then take a stiff bristol broom and move it around in a scrubbing fashion, this will give you a nice marble look, use as many colors as you want.

Thanks for the tip using US. We'll try that on TF.
For MF we are using a lot of HS. BTW: Anyone else had a green effect using Jet Black? We mixed some in a spray bottle with a reducer. It has sat for about a week. Would the aging cause it to go green? What else might cause it? |

Since someone drug up this old post I thought I would repost this project. This marbled look was done by applying chemstone over a flooded surface. gene ec-Indy

That was on a 50/50 mix, hard troweled then sanded. I probably couldn't get that look again if I had a month of Sundays. I just did stop by that restaurant
yesterday and it still looks good. The main floor doesn't look as good as the hall way.... A least with the marbling. I over flooded this area just before
throwing down the stain. I'll have to try it again on a large open area.
I haven't the experience with hydra stone dye. I can cloud it in and get an acid stain "look" but not marbling..... yet. I have a couple of ideas I'm going to play with. gene ec-Indy |

8 oz. black, 48 oz. gold, 72 oz. brown, diluted 4:1. Standing water on the floor when applied heavy. Sprayed on till I saw a reaction then moved on. I also
used 1 oz. of chocolate in my tf/mf top coat. gene ec-Indy

two coats of tf with 1 ounce palomino pcc in both. then one coat of mf in white. let it dry and use a tile scrib to etch marble lines in about 1/8 inch deep
then another coat of mf with 1 ounce palomino.

Green Tint w/ Hydrastone | #17 | ||

I had 3800 sq ft micro finish job wanted a gray floor used the Charcoal Grey HS the whole floor turned green! EC told me I did something wrong in prep...I
also did a sample on backer board it also turned green....I went to Sherwin Williams used their color tint and tinted my sealer which fixed the problem......EC
said to redo...yea right ...no problem with the lighter colors ( tan, ertc..) just the darker HS...be careful

I was happy with it. I pull my hair out when I do these floors. (You guys that know me I have to do a lot of searching to get a hand full). The customer had an
exact color in mind and I remembered watching the reaction get darker and darker, pacing to decide when to neutralize.
Luckily it came out just right. I try to get customers open to a wider variation of color depth but this one wanted it perfect. I have a bad habit of taking on picky customers as a challenge. It hasn't bit me yet but has caused me to loose a lot of hair. gene ec-Indy |

Nicely done. I'm staining my garage as we speak. I tried ghosting in the Texas Lone Star but I'm afraid it will be darker the I wanted, but it still is
looking really good. I wetted down the floor prior to staining to get some of this marbling effect and I'm getting a little. The second coat, in 4-5 hours,
will have much more water and should add to it.
For a garage/work shop it doesn't have to look like your creation but it's going to look pretty good if I do say so myself. I'm pretty happy so far with my first acid staining. I hope the final product turns out nice. |
