Posts: 673 11/10/11 05:44 PM	Tags : None I am going to go look at and bid on a 3600 sq' Body Shop floor. Waiting to hear from my distributor on this but thought I would get other input. He described the floor as being cut in 10' x 10' squares. One side is 30' x 40' and the other is 40' x 60'. He doesn't want anything fancy, just something to enhance the appearance of his shop to customers. He wants light colors possible each 10' x 10' square alternating colors. My thoughts are; prep the floors and do a vb-5 base coat. Followed by a uv-1 or pt-1 with charcoal reflector on some of the squares and a light gunmetal reflector on others to make it look like a checkered floor. Followed by 2 top coats of aus-v. I will leave it up to him on the anti slip or not. If you have done an auto body shop or have any suggestions please feel free to chime in! Thanks in advance. Posts: 462 11/26/11 08:35 AM	Dennis , a flake floor would be ideal for this application. Pt4 with flake... full broadcast and spartecall top coat. Nice for work shop If you do a partial broadcast you'll have to do PT1 or uv1 top coat and aus v.......spartecall won't bond to PT1 or uv1 alone . Dirk Last Edited By: dekco 11/26/11 08:41 AM. Posts: 687 11/26/11 09:32 AM	Gene, after looking at the project and finding out what he is actually wanting for a floor, the quartz is not an option. He will be using it as his work area and for his paint booth. He wants to break up the 10' squares with 2 shades of light color and has decided on an epoxy application of the shades of gray. I went back a second time with a couple of sample boards with a light combo of charcoal and gunmetal re on one and a light gunmetal on the other. He loved the way they looked next to one another on the floor. He has to wait until the rest of the building has been put up and the walls, heat, lighting are installed before we do anything. He has 2 other companies coming to look at it and do bids. So I am in limbo until I hear more. Thanks guys for the input! Posts: 3412 11/26/11 09:44 AM	Dirk, double broadcast goes as follows. Prep floor as usual, apply thin coat of PT1 and apply quartz (color of choice) to rejection. Let dry, sweep excess and apply another thin coat of PT1 and do the same thing all over again. Once dry apply your top coat. More isn't better in applying your epoxy. You want a nice even thin coat to throw your quartz into. Top coat has to be drawn thin also because if applied too heavy, it will puddle in the low spots and will cause slick areas. You want the final texture to be a nice dimpled texture...... unless the owner wants to pay more and load up the top coat for a smooth finish. Posts: 33 11/27/11 10:10 PM	Gene would that be good for a kitchen floor in a restaurant? I am looking at one that was done over 20 years ago with something on it and its in bad shape. Owners may be looking at letting me grind and re-do and they are asking for slip proof. Thanks, Ricky

This is very much one of the toughest floors out there. It's not hard to apply. I'm seeing a lot of specs requesting this application for commercial kitchens. Dirk I have installed a few slate trowel downs and sealed them with PT1 and then a top coat of Spartic-all within the 24 hour window and had no issues so far. I have read a couple of recent posts where Dirk has mentioned that Spatic-all should not be used as a top coat over our epoxies and would like to get confirmation on whether or not I should continue this application on future projects.---Thanks, Ed

Posts: 1082 12/09/11 05:25 PM www.elitecretemi.com	Dirk was referencing SA bond as topcoat over PT4 with partial chip broadcast. I can't speak to the validity of that. I would always recommend clear 100% solids over chip broadcast for your body and smoothness, then SA over that. Yes, Spartic All is fine over PT1 in the window, or with an 80 grit sanding outside the window.

Posts: 502 12/10/11 10:15 AM	How is everyone applying the SA? I have had trouble hiding tool marks ( Brush, Bubbles from rolller, streaks from mohair pad) I did do a seamless texture and applied SA with a 18 in squeege fairly tight and had good results. Just wondering?
