Epoxy paint still gassing off 4 months later.

Posts: 1 10/19/11 06:11 PM	Tags : None I have an art studio that was built on top of an existing 1934 cement garage floor. The floor was painted with an epoxy paint that is still gassing off 4 months later. I cannot be in the studio without all the doors and the windows open and even then I get a headache after 20 min. I am looking for some expert advice on how to get rid of the odor.

Posts: 155 10/19/11 09:14 PM	Buy some cheap coffee grounds and put them in some cheap 1" aluminum baking pans and place the pans around the room for 4-6 hours. Close doors and windows. 1 pan for every 10'x10' area, or you can spread the grounds around on the floor and then sweep them up a few hours latter. The coffee grounds will absorb the oder. The oder gets trapped in heating and cooling filters so replace those also. Oder for 4 months is not normal!

I have tried leaving the space all doors and windows open( it is approximately 15x15) for weeks and once I close it up again the smell is just as strong. I thought about stripping the floors with a green product but the old floor is so porous I am not sure if I can get all of it out. Every paint person I have talked to says that it should no longer be giving off a smell.

Posts: 492 10/20/11 11:05 AM	You said epoxy paint, so I am assuming it was not 100 % solids epoxy. Doesn't make a difference if it has cured out it should not smell. Try puting a floor wax over top three coats, see if that doesn't help
