Gentlemen/Ladies,
Need some help in doing an interior floor. Been focused on exterior applications for the last 6 years and have decided to start doing interior applications. I do not have any experience in prepping indoor floors. Obviously can't pressure wash so I know we would have to grind or shotblast? Not sure what to charge for that added step? Also, the owner presented us with a dilemma. Apparently, they had already installed tile however the tile was creating a lip near the elevator. Elevator inspector failed the business due to the lip (approximatey 1/4 inch) citing that it is a trip hazard and that a wheelchair can get caught up in the lip. The owner, instead of thinking it through, decided to tear out approx. 900 sq ft of beautiful 20 inch tile. The guys he hired to do it did a horrible job and gouged out the concrete really bad on the second floor. The owner called us out and was hoping we could smooth out the floor and apply a thin layer of coating so as to pass inspection. He would like a simple application nothing too fancy. Like I said, I have never done any interior floors and not sure about prepping, . If time and money permitted I would volunteer to fly out to whoever would have me and work side by side for free on a couple of jobs so as to perfect it but for now I have to wing it.
In reference to this job, I was thinking of grinding the floor as level as possible to remove the exisiting thin-set. Several layers of TF with the first coat being heavily worked into the indentions and gouges, and possibly a coating of MF (owner advised that a semi-rough texture such as the TF would be okay, doesn't need to be super smooth) , followed by some acid stain and a sealer (not sure which one though). I have also read that a 50/50 mix of TF and MF might be the way to go.Trying to post a photo of the floor but it's not uploading...working on it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
